Building a Lifetime AI Layer

From AI experiments in Excel to a full product strategy

For the past months, the DestinyTrackers team has been quietly stress-testing AI inside our Excel and Google Sheets planners.

The result is simple but powerful: our planners are now fully AI-compatible. Any mainstream AI system—whether embedded in Excel/Sheets or external (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, etc.)—can read the structure of our templates, understand what’s going on, and meaningfully help the user.

This is not a theoretical claim. It’s a design decision: labels, ranges, categories, and logic are built so that both humans and AI can navigate them.

Now we’re taking that learning and baking it directly into the upcoming DestinyTrackers application.

Why AI belongs at the core of DestinyTrackers

DestinyTrackers was built on a simple truth: spreadsheets already are the world’s most powerful productivity engine—if you make them usable for real people.

AI takes that a step further:

  • It turns blank cells into guided questions.
  • It translates raw numbers into simple narratives.
  • It can surface patterns in habits, finances, and routines that users would otherwise miss.

Our goal isn’t to add “AI” as a buzzword.

Our goal is to make the app feel like you always have a personal chief of staff sitting on top of your data—explaining, nudging, and planning with you.

The partnership path: ChatGPT API + Perplexity collaboration

Technically, we are convinced that ChatGPT API is the right backbone for many of our core AI experiences: conversational assistance, interpretation of planner data, and natural-language coaching.

However, our business model has a constraint that most SaaS companies avoid:

  • We are committed to a one-time payment model (~€99) for the DestinyTrackers app.
  • We want that price to include AI for the long haul—not just as a short-lived “launch perk.”

To make this sustainable, we’re exploring a special collaboration with Perplexity AI alongside ChatGPT. The logic:

  • ChatGPT API brings state-of-the-art reasoning and conversation for personal planning and habit design.
  • Perplexity-style retrieval and research can support users with fast, contextual discovery and external information, while we manage API usage in a predictable, cost-aware way.

This dual-approach lets us design an AI layer that is valuable to the user but controllable in cost.

The core challenge: lifetime AI at a one-time price

From an investor’s standpoint, the hardest part of our vision is clear:
How do you include meaningful AI capabilities for life in a product that only charges €99 once?

There are three intertwined challenges:

  1. Usage unpredictability
Some users may barely touch AI. Others might try to use it as their full-time thinking engine.
  2. API cost exposure
AI providers set prices based on tokens/requests, not on “one-time-lifetime” promises. Without guardrails, costs could outgrow revenue over time.
  3. Fairness and user expectations
We want AI to feel generous and genuinely helpful—without quietly punishing heavy users or degrading the experience.

How we’re designing around those challenges

To keep AI sustainable inside a €99 one-time price, DestinyTrackers is pursuing a structured usage design. The principles:

  1. Focus AI where it adds the most real value
Instead of allowing unlimited open-ended queries, the app will emphasize high-impact, structured AI features, such as:
“Summarize my week and suggest 3 actions.”'
    • “Turn my goals into a 90-day roadmap.”
    • “Review last month’s tracker and highlight what really moved the needle.”
    • “Suggest habit changes based on my last 4 weeks of data.”

By anchoring AI interactions in specific workflows, we:

  • keep usage predictable,
  • create repeatable value for users,
  • and avoid the bloat of “AI everywhere, all the time.”
  • Smart limits instead of hard walls

We’re modeling AI usage on a realistic average per active user per month. Within that envelope, the app will:
encourage context-rich interactions (more value per call), reuse state where possible to reduce redundant requests, gracefully signal when heavy usage is approaching soft limits.

We’re not interested in turning DestinyTrackers into a metered product. Instead, we want smart guardrails that protect the economics while keeping the experience generous for 95%+ of users.

3. Optional power tiers for ultra-heavy users (future optionality)
Although our base AI experience is designed to be included in the €99, we’re deliberately leaving product space for:
optional “power packs” or direct user BYO-API-key options (for those who want to plug in their own OpenAI/Perplexity accounts).

This means the long tail of very heavy AI usage doesn’t threaten base-unit economics.

Spreadsheet-first, AI-fluent: our structural advantage

Most productivity apps are now rushing to “add AI.” DestinyTrackers started from a different angle: we made the spreadsheet layer itself AI-readable.
Our planners are:

  • Consistently labeled – so AI can easily infer meaning from column and sheet names.
  • Semantically grouped – goals, habits, finances, and routines are structured in ways that AI models understand out of the box.
  • Minimal but explicit – less clutter, more clarity, which greatly improves AI interpretation.

In practice, this means:

  • A user can select a table in Excel / Google Sheets and ask any mainstream AI:
“What is this telling me?” or
“What should I focus on next week?”
…and the AI will have a clean, structured view to work from.
  • When we pull that same data into the DestinyTrackers app’s native AI layer, we can give users context-aware suggestions with far fewer tokens and lower cost.

This alignment between template design and AI comprehension is a strategic advantage many competitors don’t have—and it matters for both product quality and cost control.

Strategic upside: AI that actually respects the user

While most competitors are adding subscription-based AI upgrades on top of subscription-based apps, DestinyTrackers is deliberately going the opposite direction:

  • One-time price (~€99)
  • No monthly subscription
  • AI included in that promise, within well-designed usage boundaries

For users, that means:

  • No surprise charges for using AI “too much.”
  • No second paywall just to unlock the features that make the app actually useful.
  • Clear ownership: you buy the system once and it keeps working for you.

For investors, it’s a differentiated, defensible story in a crowded market:
an AI-augmented platform built on spreadsheets, with economics engineered for lifetime access.

Overview

A quiet but important commercial angle

What this article hasn’t emphasized—but is important commercially—is how generous the current entry point is.
Right now:

  • Our Excel & Google Sheets planners are available at a very accessible price.
  • Every buyer of these planners will receive the future DestinyTrackers planning application for free, including the AI layer as described.

In other words, early customers:

  • pay the planner price once,
  • gain access to an AI-ready system today,
  • and secure the upcoming multi-device, AI-augmented app without ever paying the planned €99.

It’s an unusually favorable position for early adopters—and a strong signal of how we value community and long-term trust.

Closing for investors

Implementing AI is no longer optional in the productivity space.
What is optional is how you price it, how honestly you design its limits, and whether you respect user ownership in the process.

DestinyTrackers is choosing the harder path:

  • Spreadsheet-native architecture that AI can deeply understand.
  • A dual-partner strategy focused on performance and predictability.
  • A one-time pricing model that includes AI and forces us to be disciplined about cost, value, and design.

For investors, this is not just a feature roadmap - it’s a long-term economic and ethical stance:
AI that works for users, not the other way around.
